The Albion Empire is a prominent militaristic, naval, and colonial superpower located on the peninsula northwest of Euvros. Governed by a powerful military alliance of knightly orders rather than its ceremonial monarch, Albion is defined by its cutting-edge naval technology and its extensive colonial holdings in the New World.

Geography

[edit]

The Albion Empire is situated on the rugged Alban Peninsula in northwest Euvros. The peninsula is connected to the continental mainland via the Dogger, a narrow and highly fortified land bridge that borders western Gallia.

Due to geopolitical hostilities on the mainland, Albion's borders along the Dogger are heavily defended, forcing the Empire to look outward and rely almost entirely on maritime navigation and trade routes across the open oceans.

History

[edit]

The Second Radiant War and Excommunication

[edit]

Historically, the Albion Empire was a major member of the Holy League. However, during the Second Radiant War, Albion abruptly withdrew its military forces from the campaign to retake the Holy Lands. This sudden defection fractured the coalition, resulting in a decisive defeat for the Holy League at the hands of the Undying Empire.

In retaliation, the Papacy in Avagnon officially excommunicated the Albion Empire from the Orthodox Radiant Faith. The excommunication severed Albion's official diplomatic and terrestrial trade links with the Holy Empire of Rodinia, plunging the nation into isolation.

Rise of Maritime Expansion and Columbia

[edit]

Denied access to traditional mainland markets, Albion turned its focus to maritime engineering and long-range exploration. This period of isolation catalyzed a massive naval expansion, culminating in the discovery and subsequent colonization of the "New World" continent of Columbia. The resources extracted from these colonies, such as premium tobacco, have sustained Albion's economy and funded its immense military apparatus.

Government and Administration

[edit]

The 13 Knight States and the Council

[edit]

While officially designated as an Empire, the Emperor of Albion serves as a purely symbolic, ceremonial figurehead with no active political or administrative authority.

The real power of the state is divided among 13 Knight States. These states are governed collectively by the Council of Knights. The council is led by the Three Great Knight Kings, who act as joint military commanders and political arbiters for the Empire. The prestigious Knight King Gawain III serves as one of these three leaders.

Religion

[edit]

Following their excommunication by the Papacy, Albion formally split from the Orthodox Radiant Faith. The state established the independent Church of Albion, merging traditional Radiant teachings with nationalist doctrines and local spiritual customs, completely independent of Avagnon's jurisdiction.

Demographics

[edit]
  • Humans (48%): The largest single demographic group on the peninsula, holding the majority of administrative, mercenary, and clerical positions.
  • Feline Beastkin: The largest ethnic minority within the Empire, serving prominently throughout the military and merchant guilds.
  • Draco Nobles: An ancient Draconic humanoid lineage that ruled the Alban Peninsula long before the arrival of human settlers. Despite their small numbers, the Draco hold immense traditional authority and command powerful aristocratic estates, such as the historic House of Tara.
